I was just on the FamilyLife Web site for a work assignment and overwhelmed by all the potentially life-changing books. How do you know where to start?
What’s been the most influential/helpful book on marriage you’ve read?
Tell me!

Dennis and Barbara Rainey have written several. Staying Close really covers a lot of basic stuff (most of it is what’s taught at FamilyLife’s Weekend to Remember conference, which I would HIGHLY recommend).
Preparing for Marriage (also by the Raineys and others) would be ideal for you as you approach your wedding day, and Starting Your Marriage Right would be great to use for devotions as a couple during your first year of marriage.
As for non-Rainey books, Emmerson Eggerichs Love and Respect has some foundational truths that will start your marriage off on solid footing.
Hope these are helpful. Feel free to contact me directly if you need more help. I review books for the FamilyLife website.
Blessings!

You also might want to check out a new book by Dave Harvey called “When Sinners Say’I Do’.

Hi, Angie–
I’m friends with Angela Weimer here at Muskingum and read your blog once in awhile. I’m getting married this summer and am loving Gary Thomas’ “Sacred Marriage.” Fresh, relevant & so helpful. Oh — he’s a stellar story-teller, too! I mean, even more than your average book, that is.
